ALITA - Action Learning in the Arts

ALITA is a collaborative organisational development programme to build sustainable arts organisations.  TMPL designs and delivers the ALITA series for Arts + Media Training, and the programme is funded by Arts Council England. ALITA3 is currently being delivered to London organisations. To see the current programme click here.

Live Literature Producer development feasibility study

During 2006, TMPL is carrying out national research into the Live Literature sector for Arts Council England.

Evaluation of InContext 3 percent for art programme for South Dublin County Council

Over the next two years TMPL will be evaluating the InContext 3 programme, documenting its progress and making recommendations for future projects in the county. This will include assessing the effectiveness, appropriateness and impact of the programme and its delivery partners, and consideration of whether the programme has a sustainable future.

SmartArt
- facilitating visual artists retreat

SmartArt
is a new 18 month creative development programme for visual artists who want to consolidate their artistic practice and develop business-related skills.  The programme has been developed by Arts + Media Training and funded by Arts Council England and the Esmee Fairbairn Foundation.  Debbie Kingsley will be facilitating the two-day retreat that kickstarts the programme.

Ikon - job profiling and salary structure review

TMPL has been working with the internationally acclaimed Ikon gallery in Birmingham to involve all staff in the review and development of their job descriptions and to ensure longterm financial sustainability by creating a salary structure that is transparent and light to administer.  The process involves a review of comparable salaries of peer organisations in the gallery sector, and addresses historical disparities in terms and conditions. TMPL is also supporting Ikon's board development.

Luton Carnival

TMPL has supported the recruitment of the Artistic Programmer for the new £6.5M national centre for carnival arts.

European Commission - project evaluation

Managing Director Peter Cox is a regular expert evaluator for the European Commission, reviewing cultural, technology and heritage projects.

Buxton Opera House - governance review

TMPL carried out a comprehensive governance review for the High Peak Theatre Trust looking at: board roles and responsibilities; the role and election of the Chair, Treasurer, Company Secretary and other roles; terms of office; refreshment and succession planning; board job descriptions and recruitment; code of practice for observers; induction; skills analysis; board development; local authority influence and representation; Charity Commission requirements; Nolan Committee recommendations for positions in public life; and the role of patrons.

evaluation of £5M cultural diversity initiative for Arts Council England
TMPL carried out the national evaluation of the largest cultural diversity initiative undertaken by the Arts Council to date.  You can download the key findings of this work from the Arts Council's website.

Birmingham Royal Ballet - the relationship continues to build

TMPL has developed and delivered a series of tailor made management skills workshops to the dancers at BRB; facilitated the Education Team's development; enjoyed the pleasures of BRB as an active participant of the ALITA2 programme; welcomed ex-CEO of the company, Derek Purnell, as a TMPL Associate; and is currently planning board development activities.

University Hospitals Coventry and Warwickshire NHS Trust - arts in health

TMPL worked with the Trust for 20 months to develop and implement an arts policy for the new £360M hospital.

QUEST - developing sustainable arts organisations in Birmingham

The QUEST organisational development programme was a highly concentrated two-part residential version of the ALITA programme (see above) to meet the needs of busy senior arts managers in Birmingham.  Funded by Birmingham Business Link and Arts Council England, QUEST was a highly successful programme, dubbed as "an MBA in a month".  The hardworking participants included AVITUK, Birmingham Rep, Fierce Earth, Playtrain, The Drum, The Play House. Fire Services - West Midlands, Cheshire, London, Hereford and Worcester, Nottinghamshire, Defence Fire Services etc
TMPL works with fire services across the country and in Europe on projects ranging from: developing new structures for fire and risk management services; assessor training and development of workplace assessment systems; critical incident decision making and knowledge management systems for supporting those making critical decisions in complex situations.
