Personal profile: Peter Cox, Managing Director
Peter is Managing Director of TMPL Consultants. He has worked independently
for 30 years as a consultant, with extensive background in the not for
profit sector and the arts, at a strategic level for commercial and not-for
profit organisations, local authorities, fire services, government departments
and in higher education.
He is a former visual arts critic, owner of an art gallery, journalist
and broadcaster. He leads work on sustainability of arts organisations,
as a consultant for Arts Council Wales, and in major organisational change
projects such as the redesign of the fire service for the Ministry of Defence.
He is a facilitator and imaginator, both enabling others to develop and
implement their visions and developing visionary concepts for clients.
He is a board member of Chapter Arts Centre, Cardiff and C&T Theatre,
Worcester as well as past director of Arts & Media Training Consortium,
Brith Gof and Ikon Gallery, Birmingham.
He has also been on the executive committee Friends of Birmingham Museum
and Art Gallery and was a member of the Standards & Qualifications
Advisory Group, Metier the arts industry lead body.
Areas of expertise
Management consultancy including: market research (qualitative and
quantitative); company assessments (SWOT analysis, strategy reviews); strategic
planning; new business development; product development (including running
creative workshops); corporate identity (design and implementation)
Research: has undertaken strategic analysis and developing marketing
strategies and public relations plans for a wide range of organisations
and companies including educational institutions, training organisations
and leisure services industries. Undertaken and implements market research
using a wide range of techniques including focus groups, self-completion
questionnaires, computerised trade-offs.
Education and training: training and teaching at many levels from undergraduate
to vocational courses; advisor to HE institutions; consultant to Fire Service
College
Involved in ICT since 1977 (first office computer): providing training
and consultancy since 1979. Advises on ICT matters at a strategic level
for organisations and at a user level (ICT workshops for teaching staff,
artists and administrators). Broad and deep technical knowledge allows
creative connections to client needs to be made.
Publications
Publication of the market research and reports arising from the Birmingham
Arts Marketing Project and papers to professional bodies. Widely published
as a journalist on arts matters: features writer and Art Critic Birmingham
