ALITA3 gets Arts Council England backing
TMPL
has been asked to deliver a third Action Learning in the Arts programme
for 20 arts organisations in the London region. Arts+Media Training have
been successful in a bid to Arts Council England
to support the delivery of ALITA3 which follows the success of the two
earlier ALITA programmes. TMPL's two Directors, Peter
Cox and Debbie
Kingsley, and Associate Jodi
Myers (former Director of Performing Arts, South Bank Centre),
will deliver ALITA3 starting in June 2006.
The ALITA programmes are commissioned by Arts+Media Training
(A+MT) and designed and delivered by TMPL Consultants/Training. A+MT
has been a leading provider of artist-led training and CPD for people working
in the arts since 1991. The first two Arts Council-funded ALITA programmes
were delivered to 22 Midlands organisations, which included Birmingham
Royal Ballet, Ikon Gallery, Sampad, the Drum, DanceXchange, Pegasus Theatre,
Roadmender and B Arts. A+MT plans to follow ALITA3 with new
programmes in the South West and the East Midlands later in 2006.
Background
ALITA3 is designed to strengthen its participants' organisational capacities,
and to embed within them a practical commitment to the most important resources
arts organisations possess: their people and their programmes. ALITA3
will address, in one single year-long programme, the key issues identified
by the Arts Council as critical to the development of leadership skills
for the sector.
ALITA3 will:
· support
the arts sector as a whole: ALITA3 will ensure the sustainability of
our sector through a collaborative action learning programme whose success
has been tested and assured over five years;
· support
current leaders: ALITA3 addresses the central issues of senior management
and governance, from developing and sustaining the artistic vision, to
managing change, to succession planning;
· develop
existing and new leaders: ALITA3 will enable the development of tomorrow's
cultural leaders by working with arts managers at all levels of experience
today; organisations are invited to send 3 participants to each session;
· provide
career development and advice: ALITA3 will give on-line learning support
for all participants through a dedicated website and archive, as well as
individual coaching and mentoring for participant organisations;
· support
the principles of diversity and partnership: ALITA3 will establish
learning groups in which organisations of every shape, scale and artistic
practice will work in close partnership;
· address
the multiple challenges of contemporary arts management: ALITA3 will
provide the skills needed to meet the demands - artistic,financial, political
- facing the 21st century arts organisation.
Programme:
The ALITA3 group will consist of 12 to 20 member organisations. Each will
be asked to make a full intellectual and physical commitment to the programme
and to the learning group. The cost of the programme for the member
companies will be £750: the remaining cost (over £3,250 per organisation)
will be met through the support of the Arts Council. An outline
description of the programme, and a draft schedule, are attached.
